ACC: Pack pulls it out

Caleb Mangum was completely tied up by the pitch and hit the ball only about 70 feet, but it was still the game-winning hit.
The ninth-inning bleeder gave NC State an 8-7 win over Georgia Tech in a meaningless but entertaining game to open the final day of round-robin play in the ACC tournament.
Marcus Jones started the winning rally with a leadoff single, his fourth hit of the day. He moved to second on a sac bunt and advanced to third on a fly ball to set up Mangum's game-winner.
Reliever Matt Weiters got two strikes on Mangum, then busted one in on his hands. Mangum took a very short, defensive swing and the ball dribbled very slowly towards third. Patrick Long charged, but had virtually no chance to make the play.
Tech mounted a last-second threat in the bottom of the ninth when a two-out error and a single put runners at the corners, but Eryk McConnell got a bouncer to end it.
McConnell pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Dallas Poulk chipped in three hits for NC State, and Patrick Long had three hits for GT.
Virginia and North Carolina are up next for a chance to play for the title tomorrow.
