ACC: The Nightcap, and Quotes from the Classic
By Glenn Tanner - May 23, 2007
Florida State and Wake Forest are scheduled for a 10pm first pitch. (Ouch.)
Garrett Bullock gets the ball for the Deacs. He's 4-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 86 innings. Opposing hitters are batting .299 against him.
Michael Hyde (9-2, 3.38 ERA in 72 innings) gets the start for FSU.
Quotes from the previous game after the jump:
"I'm sure the fans enjoyed the game, it was probably a great game to watch, but we let one get away from us. We made a couple of mistakes that cost us a couple of runs. I felt we should have won the game in nine innings, and we have to play better if we're going to beat a club like Clemson." -- Miami coach Jim Morris
"I think we'll benefit from a day off. We'll be able to regroup and work on the mistakes we made today. Hopefully by practicing, we won't make the mistakes on Friday." -- Jemile Weeks
"We had a lot of tough situations in that game when we could have folded, but we kept hanging in there. We've been playing pretty well lately with some confidence and some battle." -- Clemson coach Jack Leggett
Why he squeezed:
"I had seen a few too many double plays tonight... I just wanted the game to end. I wanted to go home." -- Leggett
"Anytime you give a squeeze sign you feel like everyone in the whole ballpark's watching you." -- Leggett
"He told me beforehand to be looking for [the squeeze sign]" -- Alex Lee
Leggett likes the new format:
"Last year at this time we'd be going home, having a cold pizza, getting up in the morning, and having a game at one o'clock, maybe a doubleheader, and playing the same thing three times. So it's better that we have a day off. We know who we're playing, we know when we're playing, and we can set our schedule." -- Leggett
Leggett also said that D'Allessio is OK and should be ready to play Friday. He was hit in the forearm, not the wrist.
