ACC: Would you believe Wake?

By Glenn Tanner - May 26, 2007

Wake Forest stunned the ACC and saddened Clemson by beating Miami 7-3

The win punches Wake's ticket to the ACC championship game to face North Carolina in, oh... about 13 hours.

It also eliminated Clemson, which had beaten Florida State in the previous game.

Wake Forest got a mammoth two-run homer from previously-slumping Allan Dykstra in the third to tie it, broke through with a three-run rally in the fifth to take the lead, and then scored two more runs in the sixth without a hit to completely take the air out of Miami.

Wake had only seven hits on the day but benefited from six walks and two Miami errors.

Dykstra, who had been hitless in the tournament, had two hits, three RBI, and scored twice.

The Deacons also received strong starting pitching from Ben Hunter, who went 6 innings, allowed only two runs, and struck out eight. The bullpen did its job, too, as Eric Niesen and Josh Ellis allowed only a single unearned run and struck out six in three innings.

I'll be back in about 30 minutes with quotes.
