A-Sun: Bulldogs Capitalize

By Bryan App - May 23, 2007

With the top of the order coming to the plate in the top of the third, Gardner-Webb again put its Nos. 1 and 2 hitters on base at the expense of some Mercer miscues. But this time, the Bulldogs made them count, taking a 1-0 lead.

Leadoff batter Jamall Kinard reached on an error after a short hop sent a groundball bouncing off Mercer shortstop Billy Shaughnessy. Jay MConnell then reached on a fielder’s choice and an error, as second baseman Nick DiMauro dropped the ball in an attempt to get the lead runner.

Nate MacDonald then plated Kinard with a blooper single to right field.
