A-Sun: Final Thoughts, All-Tournament Team
By Bryan App - May 26, 2007
What an impressive tournament run by Jacksonville. After suffering an opening round loss to Belmont, the Dolphins survived three days in the loser's bracket winning four straight games, including back-to-back wins against the Bruins today.
You have to feel bad for Belmont. The Bruins really needed to win the conference tourney to receive an NCAA tournament berth. That goal seemed like a certainty after routing top-seeded Stetson 18-5 Friday night. For three days they were the dominant team here, and they came up two runs short of continuing that dominance.
Although we won't find out until Monday, Jacksonville likely will play at the Tallahassee Regional hosted by No. 2 Florida State. Sure, the Dolphins (36-24) at Dick Howser might seem like a massacre waiting to happen, but Jacksonville did take one of two from the Seminoles this season, a 5-3 midweek home win. Mike Martin's crew will likely be a little more jacked for a post season series, however.
After the Dolphins' brief photo session with an Atlantic-Sun Tournament banner torn from the fence along the left field line, members of the all-tournament team were announced.
