A-Sun: Game 2 Underway

By Bryan App - May 23, 2007

The sky has cleared over Melching Field in DeLand, Fla., and the first two innings of the second and perhaps most interesting first-round game are in the books. Fourth-seeded Jacksonville leads third-seeded Belmont 1-0.

Belmont centerfielder Carlo Testa misjudged a deep fly ball by clean-up hitter Ryan McArdle in the top of the second and watched it sail over his head. McArdle trotted into second and advanced to third before scoring on a double by Don Vickers.

Jacksonville, the preseason No. 1 pick in the A-Sun, looks more impressive on defense. Right fielder Mike McAllister had a nifty knee-high catch in the first, while McArdle made a diving backhanded stop and threw out the batter from deep in the hole behind third in the second inning. Second baseman Logan James ended that inning with a backhanded snag of a ground ball up the middle and flip to second to get the lead runner.
