A-Sun: Mercer Takes the Lead
By Bryan App - May 23, 2007
Every time Gardner-Webb pushes, the Mercer offense pushes back harder. The Bears added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, their first of the game.
With runners on first and second, Steven Karwatt ripped an RBI single to left, and another run scored as the throw to the plate rolled to the backstop.
The outburst chased starter Jonathon Ban out of the game, as he was replaced by lefty Webster Beal to begin the bottom of the seventh after the Bulldogs went scoreless in the top of the inning.
Momentum is squarely with the Bears now.
