Big East: Foul Behavior

By Elliot Olshansky - May 22, 2007

As we stretch in Brooklyn - having switched back to organ music instead of the Harry Caray recording - I can't help but noticed the effect a sparsely populated park has on that favorite fan activity, the pursuit of foul balls.

You know the drill: stand, jump up - leap over into the seat in front of you and kick a kid in the back while doing it if you must - but do what you have to do to get that ball.

That's not happening here tonight. Balls are being caught on the bounce, or even allowed to roll to a stop before being picked up by whichever spectator happens to be closest. Sometimes, the fan doesn't even leave his seat until the ball is down. How civilized.

Meanwhile, the game remains as tight as ever. The hits are still being scattered, and these teams are doing whatever they can to try to manufacture runs, but it's just not happening. Will it happen in time to finish this one in nine? Stay tuned.
