Big East: Technical Beauty, Technical Ugliness

Well, something had to give, and something finally did. As we head to the eighth inning, the Red Storm has taken a 2-1 lead by manufacturing a run.

While UConn freshman pitcher Robert Van Woert helped delay the run, he also had a hand in giving it up.

Chris Anninos led off the bottom half of the inning with a single for the Johnnies, then advanced on a sac bunt by Anthony Smith. When Brendan Monaghan flew out to left, Anninos took off for third, and Peter Fatse overthrew the bag. Anninos was unable to take advantage, though, because Van Woert was right there, backing up the throw.

However, on the next at bat, Ryan Mahoney grounded hard up the first baseline, and while Matt Untiet was right there to stop the ball on the ground behind the bag, Van Woert was nowhere near first for the throw, and Mahoney reached safely and Anninos went home.

As a result, it's 2-1 Johnnies at the top of the eighth.
