Cowboys get the sweep

By Tristan Threlkeld - May 06, 2007

In one of the more exciting three game series I have ever seen, the OSU Cowboys stole game three from the Oklahoma Sooners for the season sweep for the second year in a row. I looked all the way back to the 1975 series and could not find that OSU swept OU in consecutive seasons ever. This has been a pretty evenly matched series since that time.

I thought the pitching move in the bottom of the ninth by OU head coach Sunny Golloway was the call that doomed OU's chances. Nich Conaway pitched great in relief for 5.2 innings of work and he walked the first Cowboy batter in the ninth. Golloway brought in Garrett Richards who was previously pounded by the Cowboys earlier in the series. Well Richards was not exactly pounded in the ninth but he did give up a walk to the first batter he faced, Jordy Mercer who got the win for the Cowboys to improve to 2-0 on the year and it gave Richards his first loss of the season.

MVP of the game and the series goes to the Cowboys Ty Wright. Wright hit .545 in the series with 3 RBIs. The RBI's overall were not a lot, but the one on Sunday gave the Cowboys the win.

The Cowboys now have sole possession of third place in the Big 12 and trail the Texas Longhorns by 2 1/2 games for first and trail the Missouri Tigers by 1 game for second place. Next week the Cowboys travel to Lubbock, Tx to face the lowly Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Sooners will travel to Columbia, Mo to take on the second place Tigers and will look to snap a five-game losing streak and will fight to keep position within the top eight of the conference to get a chance to play in the conference tournament.
From here at the "Brick" good night and good luck to both teams.
