C-USA Tournament: Looking ahead...
By Ronnie Woodward - May 25, 2007
Their are only four teams left, and tomorrow could be more interesting than the seeds indicate...
Memphis is swining the bat very well, and challenged the Owls in a losing effort yesterday. The Memphis players seemed very confident after today's game and will not be scared of Rice tomorrow, but I'm not sure if they have enough pitching to win back-to-back games over Rice.
The bottom bracket is even more interesting, Tulane is better than its seed indicates. ECU has won two emotional games and confidence is high, but its offense has been inconsistent as of late. Tulane, on the other hand, is clicking on all cylinders right now and Coach Jones said tonight that his team is playing like they were at the beginning of the season again.
In the 2006 C-USA Tournament, ECU beat Tulane 4-2 in the first round. Two days later, Tulane eliminated the Pirates from the tournament. In this year's tournament, ECU again beat Tulane 4-2 in the first round, and the two teams will again meet in a rematch tomorrow(3 days after the 1st round this time). History could repeat itself, but it will be a lot tougher to do this time as ECU had today off and will be better rested than Tulane.
Tomorrow should be fun, Memphis and Rice will kick things off at 9 a.m. Tulane and ECU will follow, and their could be more games after that...We'll see!
