C-USA Tournament: Memphis wins game 1

By Ronnie Woodward - May 23, 2007

Fifth-seeded Memphis defeated fourth-seeded Houston 12-3 in Game 1 of the C-USA Tournament.

Tiger freshman Brennon Martin pitched his first career complete game, allowing four runs on nine hits. The crafty left-hander came into the game with a 3-1 record and 4.91 ERA in five regular season starts.

Memphis pounded out 19 hits and scored in seven of the nine innings.

Offensively, Mempis was led individually by Adam Amar and Josh Irvin. Amar went 3-for-5 with two home runs and 5 RBIs. Irvin went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Memphis will play the winner of the UCF/Rice game tomorrow at 4 p.m., while Houston will play the loser tomorrow at 9 a.m.

Game two between No. 1 Rice and No. 8 UCF will start at approximately 12:35 p.m...in the meantime I'm going downstairs to eat lunch!
