C-USA Tournament: This, that and a Recap

By Ronnie Woodward - May 25, 2007

What a day! All 4 games offered its own uniqueness to a wonderful day of baseball here at Clark-LeClair Stadium...

Rice and ECU have really distinguised themselves from the pack. It will be very hard for any team (especially in Bracket 1) to win three straight and prevent a Rice-ECU showdown on Sunday.

Rice is no doubt one of the best teams in the nation, Joe Savery is a flat-out player and is stil the wildcard in this tournament. Coach Graham told me earlier in the week that he would like to save pitching Savery until an elimination game, which will probably be Sunday, and he will be tough to beat in a championsip game, especially if the opponent is on pitcher 4 or 5 at that point.

ECU has just been exciting to watch the past two days, at least after the seventh inning. Harrison Eldridge has been special, and this team is clicking at the right time after a rough end to the regular season.

The atmoshere has been great, especially for the ECU games. The type of enviroment in the last game was what Keith LeClair envisioned for this stadium. I was a little disapointed when the ECU fans were quick to grumble at coach Godwin after the baserunning fiasco in the 8th. Godwin is a very good coach and has the Pirates on the right track, the ECU fans should be greatful for the coach that they have.

Houston has to be a little disapointed with its effort, as they and UAB are eliminated. UCF has been fun to watch, I expect them to continue to play well tomorrow, despite being the lowest seed in the tournament.

Here is the schedule for tomorrow, no 9 a.m. game tomorrow, which I am pretty excited about!

UCF v. Memphis at 3 p.m. (again not 9 am!)
Tulane v. Southern Miss at 6:30 p.m.

Thanks for the "SLOGS". I've really enjoyed reading them the last couple of days. While you're in Greenville, make sure you try B's BBQ and/or Marathon. They're both very good. Enjoy your time there. I know I did!
