C-USA Tournament: Tulane "upsets" Southern Miss

By Ronnie Woodward - May 25, 2007

Tulane, the seven seed, eliminated No. 3 Southern Miss tonight, winning 6-2. Even though Tulane was the lower seed, the Green Wave looked like the better team and could make things interesting the rest of the way.

Senior Brandon Gomes gave Tulane a great pitching performance, he struck out 10 and allowed only one run in seven innings.

Tulane suddenly has some momentum heading into tomorrow's rematch with ECU. The Pirates scored a 4-2 comeback victory over Tulane in the first round.

"We haven't quit, there's no question about it," Tulane coach Rick Jones said after he scored his 600th career victory. "We've had too much success for our kids to give in and we'll see what happens tomorrow."
