For the Kids

At the end of the second, it's a scoreless ballgame, with a Pitts Walk accounting for the only baseruner of the day, and a flying bat the Chris Dominguez lost at the end of the last at-bat generating the most on-field excitement.
Not to say that there aren't still plenty of great seats available here at Keyspan Park, but this really is a nice atmosphere, thanks in large part to the school groups that have been brought to the ballpark for today's action.
In my humble (OK, fine, it's not that humble) opinion, young schoolkids are among the best fan you can find. The y clap along with everything, they cheer enthusiastically, and they don't cuss.
Most importantly, I think, there's a constant stream of chatter that makes it feel like something's going on here. I have no idea what the kids are talking about from up here in the press box - although they did get very loud when a Scooby Doo audio clip was played before an at-bat. Still, the combination of the kids chatter, the sight of the beach out beyond the outfield, and good college baseball being played down below makes a 10:00 a.m. baseball game a lot more entertaining than one might expect.
