Mistakes Make Good For Tigers

By Tristan Threlkeld - May 19, 2007

A few mistakes here and there by the Cowboys cost them their seven game winning streak and an early 0-1 deficit to the Missouri Tigers in a best of three for second place in the Big 12 conference. The early 1-0 advantage could be huge for the Tigers, knowing that they only have to win one more game to give them second. That is a far cry difference for a club that was projected in the pre-season to finish seventh or worse in the conference. Well the Tigers have tamed their nemesis all season and have done one better than the Cowboys by taking the series from Texas in Austin of all places, a feat no team has been able to accomplish all season, even the Pokes know how hard it is to beat the Longhorns as they fell victim to a sweep by the Horns.

In last nights contest Cowboy mistakes and the Tigers ability to jump on them helped the Tigers win game one. Cowboy starting pitcher Jeff Breedlove gave up three solo long shots on three mistake pitches, that gave the Tigers three easy runs. Mistake pitches were not the only thing to haunt the Cowboys in game one, but four fielding errors cost the Cowboys a few more runs. A fielding error by RF Corey Brown led to the Tigers increasing its lead in the first 2-0. After a few homeruns by the Tigers and two errors by Cowboy pitcher Tyler Lyons helped the Tigers increase its lead again.

This game was not decided by just a few mistakes, but quite possibly on the arm of Tigers ace Aaron Crow, who threw a gem of a game for seven innings and only giving up three earned runs. Got to give it up to guy who can shut down one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the country and the best in the Big 12. Not only did the Tigers quiet the Cowboy bats, but they only allowed one extra base hit to the Cowboys. It also doesn't help the Cowboys when your big sticks (1-7 batters) go 7-29 in a game, which is good for .241 avg.

Till later on here's to all the other bloggers having a good day at the ol' ball park.
