MU-UT: Fashion Report

By Glenn Tanner - May 06, 2007

Sometimes you know it's going to be a rough day early. Missouri pitcher Ian Berger hit Nick Peoples with his first pitch of the game, and two runs were on the board before the inning was over.

Berger has settled down, though, and Missouri trails only 2-1 after three innings. Texas is six innings away from claiming the Big 12 title.

Peoples stole second and scored on Chance Wheeless' single. Wheeless moved to second on a balk and scored on Russell Moldenhauer's single. I said in the preview that Berger wasn't a strikeout pitcher (only 13 K's in 28.2 innings), but he fanned two to get himself out of the first.

Missouri did get a run back when freshman catcher Trevor Coleman hit a bomb over the Texas bullpen in left. Coleman is from Dripping Springs, about 20 miles from here, so that had to be fun for him.

Coleman was the only baserunner that Texas pitcher Austin Wood allowed his first time through the lineup, but 1-2 hitters Evan Frey and Brock Bond both touched him for sharp singles on their second looks in the third inning.

Mizzou's game notes have the most expansive "Recond When..." section I've ever seen. Some of it is very relevant -- Missouri is 17-1 when they hit at least one home -- but some of it... not so much. The Tigers are 6-3 in their white uniforms, 7-3 in their grays, 5-3 in their vintage uniforms, 5-1 wearing black jerseys and gray pants, 8-2 in black jerseys and white pants, and most curiously, 0-0 in their "Alternate Black Jersey." That alternate jersey must really be heinous if hasn't even seen the field.

Just in case you put stock in these things, Mizzou is wearing black jerseys and gray pants today.
