MVC: Bears Surge to Early Lead

By Jean Neuberger - May 24, 2007

The top of the first brought groans from the maroon-clad MSU fans, and mumbles of "The Bears are back to normal." were being muttered in the press box. Evansville's Jim Viscomi singled, advanced to third on an error by MSU shortstop Tanner Mattson, and scored on a great baserunning play, as Kasey Wahl ran a third of the way towards second, as he noticed that MSU 1B Josh Mazzola had run towards home, ready for a relay throw. The move distracted RF Nolan Keane, who had just caught a shallow fly ball, and as he scrambled to deal with Wahl, Viscomi tagged safely from third to make it 1-0 Aces.

However, Missouri State answered back in the bottom half. After Mattson took a pitch to the head, the Bears got singles from Keane and Chris Taylor (who hit his off the first base bag), scoring Mattson. Keane would score on a sac fly to deep right center from Mazzola, and just like that, Missouri State grabbed a 2-1 lead; a lead that Evansville will try to come back from as we start the second.
