MVC: Bears Three Outs Away

By Jean Neuberger - May 23, 2007

What a surprise we have here tonight in Springfield.

It looked for a second that Wichita State would make a rally, as Derek Schermerhorn was walked, Buddy Braumann was replaced by Tim Clubb, and Damon Sublett was walked immediately after to put the tying run at the plate with no outs. However, Clubb answered in style, striking out the next three batters and sending the crowd into bedlam, as Missouri State heads to the ninth with a 5-2 lead on the Shockers.

It seems as if WSU is trying TOO hard. The last two batters of the inning, Tyler Weber and Matt Brown, were swinging for the skies, trying to tie the game on one swing. That's not the way Wichita State plays, or wins, games. Everything's just going right for the hometown team, and right now Southern Illinois is shaking their heads at the thought of taking on the Shox this early.

Can Wichita pull off a comeback, or do the Bears send ripples throughout the Midwest with this upset?
