MVC: Close Game Turns to Bluejay Bash
By Jean Neuberger - May 26, 2007
Creighton has found their bats in the bottom of the sixth, and this one has become ugly.
After Chad Gradoville popped out to right. Darin Ruf singled, and then scored on a double down the left field line by Steve Winkelmann, making it a 3-1 game. A wild pitch moved Winkelmann to third, and three more balls by WSU's Kyle Touchatt put Masten on first and sent Gene Stephenson out to hand him a free ticket to the showers. LHP Noah Booth came into the game, having a 6-1 record and 0.98 ERA.
He doesn't have that 0.98 ERA anymore.
Chad Ogden absolutely punished a fastball delivery, sending it WAY over the bullpen fence in left field, and the blue-clad fans behind the third base dugout broke into hysterics as the Bluejays leaped out of the dugout to mob him, as well as Winkelmann and Masten, at home plate. It's a 6-1 Creighton lead as we head to the seventh.
