MVC: Friday's Wrap-Up
By Jean Neuberger - May 25, 2007
We've finished up early tonight! (cheers from the media)
We know now it'll be Creighton and Wichita State tomorrow afternoon here in Springfield. The question now is if we'll play one game or two tomorrow at Hammons Field.
Offense was the name of the game for the Shocks and Jays tonight. While it took Wichita State eight innings to open the floodgates, Creighton exploded from the start and never looked back, and you have to tip your hat to the Bluejays, in what was one of the most impressive offensive performances we've seen all year.
So can the Shockers beat Creighton?
Absolutely. They've beaten 'em twice out of three times this season, and they haven't used much of their bullpen. When you get to these last few games in tournament play, you need to have fresh arms in the bullpen. Depleting the pen equals the kiss of death in the postseason, but neither Wichita nor Creighton have wasted many arms so far in this tournament, so anything is possible tomorrow.
If you're a betting man, take Creighton. But I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the Shockers pull off two wins.
Game time tomorrow is set for 1:05pm. Should Wichita win the first game, the MVC title game will be tomorrow night at 7:05. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for us.
For now, though, we bid you goodnight from Hammons Field, where Wichita and Creighton mercy-ruled their way to battle for the 2007 Missouri Valley Tournament crown.
