MVC: Have Mercy, Creighton
By Jean Neuberger - May 25, 2007
A miracle actually happened in the fifth, as Creighton was held scoreless. However, that trend ended in a hurry. Two singles by Steve Winklemann and Chad Ogden were followed by two straight walks to TJ Roemmich and Michael Lam. Winklemann scored on Lam's bases loaded walk, and with no outs and the bases loaded, Creighton's lead became 12-2 as we're in the top of the sixth.
Bradley replaced pitchers, bringing in Eitan Barbalat to stop the massive bleeding. At this point, one wonders if there is any blood left to bleed out of the Braves. This is just brutal baseball right now.
Turns out, there is more blood to go around. Robbie Knight singled to right to score Ogden and keep the bases loaded, making it a 13-2 game. Ross Sinclair grounded to second, but he beat the fielder's choice to first, and Roemmich scored, making it 14-2. Finally, the bleeding stopped on a double play grounder by Chris Gradoville.
Thank goodness for the 10-run rule. If this score holds, Bradley's suffering will last only 1 1/2 more innings.
