MVC: Key To UE Win: Ejection

By Jean Neuberger - May 24, 2007

Sometimes in basketball, it takes a technical foul to fire up a team. Today, it was baseball, but when MSU's Nolan Keane collided head first into Evansville's Kirk Bacsu, it not only cost Keane any chance to play the rest of the game, it cost Missouri State THE game.

"We've been playing flat for a month and a half," said UE coach David Seifert. "We needed something like that to happen. Kirk is a warrior, and the heart and soul of our team. He's probably the most well-liked guy we have on our club. When that happened to him, the energy went way up."

How far up did it go?

"Tenfold," said UE pitcher Ben Norton.

Missouri State Coach Keith Guttin agreed.

"It sparked them," he said. "They got fired up to play us. It didn't help us any."

Lesson learned: Don't collide into the catcher...it can cost you big time.
