MVC: Moving Along Quickly

By Jean Neuberger - May 24, 2007

Wichita's Rob Musgrave and SIU's Cody Adams are moving along very efficiently, and after two innings of play, we're still scoreless here in Springfield. Both teams have only mustered one hit, and only one player has reached scoring position. That happened in the top of the second, when WSU 2B Josh Workman singled, and then stole second with two outs. The Shockers couldn't get him home, though, as Tyler Hill grounded out to third to snuff out the threat.

I really like the control of both pitchers right now. Adams isn't throwing anything fast, but he's really working the corners and forcing a lot of ground balls from the Shockers, as they are having trouble getting the meat of the bat on the ball. Meanwhile, Musgrave's breaking stuff is terrific, and the Salukis are swinging wildly so far in their attempts to get a piece of it.

Wichita's fans are in full force behind the first base dugout. The Shockers have a nice-sized contingent traveling with them this week. The Salukis can't say the same, as their fan base can best be described as a smattering.

Shockers still batting in the top of the third, 0-0.
