MVC: No Chick-Fil-A Cows Here

By Jean Neuberger - May 26, 2007

Unlike the other tournaments down south, there is no Chick-Fil-A dancing cow here in Springfield. I hate that; as I do love me some lemonade going, and add buffalo sauce to one of their sandwiches...that's good eats.

But then again, who could blame the cow for being afraid? The first drive-thru hamburger restaurant in the world was right here in Springfield, as Red's Giant Hamburgs (yes, Hamburgs) opened up on US Route 66 in 1947.

A few more fun things on our tournament locale...

*Quite a few natives have made it on TV and in the movies. Brad Pitt was born and raised here, graduating from Kickapoo High School. So was actor and multiple SNL host John Goodman, who's even an alumnus of Missouri State. Kathleen Turner was a Springfield native, as was Miami Vice star Don Johnson (though that's not one I'd brag on so much).

And how about Bob Barker, the legend of The Price Is Right. Barker was also raised here in Springfield. We wish he was here, but he gets a reprieve, with all the retirement stuff going on. That, and well, he was great in Happy Gilmore. Gotta give him his due there.

As for the others though...seriously, why can't you come back home and watch some good baseball? What else do you have to do...sit around in some Hollywood joint? Travel BACK overseas with Angelina? Keep dreaming about the 80s when you were popular? I'd rather be watching some baseball.

And that's what we have on store today, as Wichita State and Creighton will face off in one, or two games today. A champion will be crowned, but who, and how many games will decide it, are up for grabs here at Hammons Field.
