MVC: Ruf Cuts Lead in Half

By Jean Neuberger - May 26, 2007

Let the dogfight begin here in Springfield.

Darin Ruf led off the top of the seventh inning with a blast to left. No doubt it had the distance, but the question was if it could stay fair. It did, by about a foot, and Creighton finally got on the scoreboard, now trailing Wichita 2-1 as we hit the seventh inning stretch.

LHP Noah Booth (6-1, 0.98 ERA) is warming up in the Shockers bullpen out in left field. Meanwhile, down in the bullpen just off of foul ground in right field, LHP Scott Reese (3-0, 4.36 ERA) is warming up for the Bluejays.

The chant of "Let's Go, Shockers!" is beginning to waft through the stands here at Hammons Field, as Wichita bats here in the last of the seventh, clinging to the slimmest of leads.
