MVC: Salukis Show Bite Early

By Jean Neuberger - May 23, 2007

It didn't take long at all to get the scoring started here in Springfield.

After SIU's Kevin Koski reached base on a fielding error by Creighton's Michael Lam, Aaron Roberts laid down a sac bunt to move him to second (that he almost beat), and Adam Hills singled up the middle to bring Koski home. Mark Kelly, who was batting .384 before the day started, also singled up the middle, bringing up Scott Elmendorf. Elmendorf hit a high fly to deep right that should've been caught, but Bluejay RF Ross Sinclair lost it in the sun, and it bounced out of his glove, sending Kelly to second and scoring Hills.

CU pitcher Marc Lewis would strike out the next two batters, but the damage has been done early. It's 2-0 Southern Illinois, with the Bluejays coming to bat in the bottom of the first.
