MVC: Shockers Refusing to Fold
By Jean Neuberger - May 26, 2007
You would think, after losing the first game, coming back and fighting your way to today, winning a pitcher's duel in a dramatic ninth, and going through a grand total of 4 1/2 hours of rain delays this week would take a severe emotional toll on the Wichita State Shockers.
It hasn't. This is one gritty team that just doesn't give up easy.
The Shockers have found their bats in the top of the eighth. Derek Schermerhorn singled, and advanced to second on a single to left by Matt Brown. They would both score on a double by Conor Gillaspie that bounced off the wall in the left center power alley. Tyler Hill then singled to right to score Gillaspie, and Josh Workman just doubled off the left field wall, putting runners on second and third.
So how do you like this? Scott Reese comes into the game to pitch, as Andy Masten has been severely battered in this inning. Creighton started the inning up five, but Wichita has cut it to 6-4, and the tying run is on second with nobody out.
You just gotta love baseball in the Valley. Man, you gotta love this!
