MWC: Cougars Get Out of Jam, Hold Lead

By Jason Owens - May 24, 2007

With two on and two out in the eighth, BYU coach Vance Law wasn't taking any chances with starting pitcher Jake Wortham letting his 5-3 lead slip away. He brought in reliever Matt Jensen to finish out the inning.

New Mexico's Daniel Stovall managed an infield hit off of Jensen's bare hand, but no runners scored. After Jensen shook off the contact from the hit, he battled cleanup hitter Matt Hibbitts to a full count with the bases loaded. The payoff pitch got the result he was looking for as Hibbitts grounded out to second baseman Austin Hall, who made a nice play to field the ball on a tough hop and throw Hibbitts out at first to end the inning.
