MWC: Heavyweight Battle Underway

By Jason Owens - May 25, 2007

By far the most anticipated matchup of the MWC Championship is underway with top-seeded TCU and No. 2 seed BYU taking the diamond. TCU brings Chris Johnson with his 3.80 ERA and 11-2 record to the mound while BYU counters with MWC Pitcher of the Year Jesse Craig, who owns a 2.80 ERA, 10-2 record and a regular season shutout of the powerful Horned Frogs.

Stephen Wells led off the top of the first with a single and the Cougars made good contact, but didn't get anything going as a big double play anchored by TCU third baseman Steven Trout helped put a quick finish to the inning.

Trout came back with a base hit off of Craig in the bottom of the inning, but like the Cougars, TCU couldn't get anything going and we're tied at 0-0 after one.
