MWC: Insert Foot in Mouth

By Jason Owens - May 25, 2007

As soon as I declared TCU in control, BYU turned around and took command of this ball game with a five-run explosion in the sixth that claimed two Horned Frog pitchers. I should quit making declarations.

Things got started for BYU when Apana Nakayama reached on an error and Kent Walton walked. Jim Schlossnagle decided he'd seen enough and replaced pitcher Chris Johnson with Donald Furrow. That decision did not pay off. Furrow gave up three straight hits that scored Nakayama and Walton and promptly left the game with the bases loaded and no outs for Tyler Lockwood.

Lockwood struck J.T. Musso out, but gave up two more hits that scored three runs, officially turning this game into a surprising 7-5 shootout. Hmmm... maybe shootout isn't the best term to describe a baseball game, but I'm running with it.

TCU struck back with a run in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 7-6 when Andrew Walker knocked in Kevin Conlon who tripled to left field and scored his third run of the game. This one's close, but a far cry from the game we expected today.
