MWC: Lobo Mistakes Adding Up
By Jason Owens - May 25, 2007
The mistakes continue to compound for New Mexico as an error-filled sixth inning led to four more UNLV runs and a 7-0 Rebel lead. Lobos coach Rich Alday tried to stop the bleeding by pulling struggling starter Shane Dyer, but the flood gates opened when Adam Skelton took the mound.
Not to put it all on Skelton, as two fielding errors kept the inning going far longer than it should have. The big play came when Jordan Pacheco threw a double-play ball over the first baseman's head and two runs scored instead of the inning coming to an end.
Skelton didn't help his own cause, though, when he hit the next batter and gave up a two-out double to Ryan Kowalski to tack on two more Rebel runs.
The sixth-seeded Rebels, meanwhile, continue to cruise behind excellent pitching from Chris Saddoris and some outstanding defensive plays from second baseman Keith Smith.
