MWC: RE-BELS!
By Jason Owens - May 23, 2007
UNLV has made it a ball game. With the hometown fans rooting in full force, the Rebels rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth. With two outs, leadoff hitter Calvin Beamon hit the first pitch to deep left field past replacement fielder Nick Lowery to reach third on a triple. On the play, Lowery, who had come in as a pitch runner, fell and had to be helped off the field.
After the injury break, pitcher John James walked Ryan Kowalski, prompting Utah to bring in Brett Bruneel to the mound. Bruneel subsequently gave up a standup double to Keith Smith and a single to Blake Gailen, allowing two more UNLV runs. After hitting Xavier Scruggs and walking Efren Navarro, Bruneel mercifully ended the inning by forcing Rance Roundy to fly out. By then, the score was tied.
