MWC: Rebels Strike First in Extra Play

By Jason Owens - May 23, 2007

UNLV looks ready to put an end to the extra play here and pull off the upset of the third-seeded Utes in Las Vegas with a two-run 10th inning. Pitcher Chad Cullers intentionally walked cleanup hitter Keith Smith after Ryan Kowalski reached on a double. Blake Gailen laid down a perfect bunt to advance the runners to second and third with one out.

Xavier Scruggs then continued his outstanding play today with a single to center field to score Kowalski. Efren Navarro then hit a deep shot to center field, allowing Smith to score from third on a sacrifice before Scruggs was thrown out at second. Utah enters the bottom of the 10th with a 6-4 deficit.
