MWC: Sixth-Seed Rebels Advance Again

By Jason Owens - May 25, 2007

The Lobos threatened in the eighth with a couple of hits to lead off the inning that forced a UNLV pitching change, but it was to no avail as the Rebels advance past New Mexico with an 8-3 win.

Reliever Koji Pupo closed out the eighth with no damage and allowed a run in the ninth, but the Lobos needed a lot more firepower to advance. With the victory, senior pitcher Chris Saddoris likely ends his career on a high note, logging his first win of the season with 7.2 innings of 2-run ball.

If he’s going to pitch again, the Rebels still have a long road to hoe through the losers’ bracket; they have to win the whole thing this week to advance to NCAA play.

They move on to face the loser the afternoon showdown between top-seeded TCU and No. 2 seed BYU coming up shortly after 3 p.m. PDT.
