MWC: Utes Threaten, Fall Short

By Jason Owens - May 23, 2007

With UNLV holding a 6-4 lead, Utah threatened with three base-runnners and one run in the bottom of the 10th. But closer Adam Moser sealed the 6-5 win with a strikeout of Corey Shimada to advance to the winner's bracket and a matchup with No. 2-seed BYU on Thursday.

Xavier Scruggs gets player of the game honors thanks to his 2-for-5, 2 RBI day at the plate and stellar play in the field despite a throwing error. He came up with the big hits when UNLV needed them, made a couple of great plays in the field and may have made the play of the game by appealing a run scored by Utah that took a run off the board and put an end to the inning when it was ruled that Utah's Mike Mitchell failed to touch third base.

With the loss, Utah advances tonight to face the loser of today's New Mexico-San Diego State matchup.
