NASHVILLE: Controversy

By Chris Lee - May 17, 2007

Vandy's Pedro Alvarez just smoked a double to the gap in right-center, and Alex Feinberg, running all the way from first, appeared to slide around LSU catcher Sean Ochinko to score the game's first run.

Home plate umpire Jack Cox disagreed. As Feinberg got up, no signal was given, and Ochinko chased Feinberg down about 12 feet from the plate and was called out.

The normally mild-mannered Feinberg removed his helmet and was hot as he made his way back towards Cox, both parties adamant that the other one was in error. In four years of covering Vanderbilt, I think it's the first time I've ever seen a player have words with an umpire.

Vandy coach Tim Corbin also came out and had a heated exchange with Cox for a good 90 seconds before returning to the dugout. The fiasco seems to have riled up an otherwise docile Vandy crowd, as LSU's Ochinko leads off the second by reaching on Ryan Flaherty's error.

No score from Nashville as we hit the top of the second.
