NASHVILLE: LSU gets a run back, then some tough luck

By Chris Lee - May 19, 2007

LSU No. 9 hitter Robert Lara led off the eighth with a double off the top of the 310-foot high wall in left, then scored on Michael Hollander's ground-out..That was the second out of the inning that Brett Jacobson registered, then after he walked Blake Dean, Tim Corbin pulled him for closer Casey Weathers, who gave up a single to Sean Ochinko to set up Nick Pontiff's ground ball that looked for all the world like it was going to get into right and score the tying run from third.

That's when second baseman Alex Feinberg made a fully-extended dive to his left, snared the ball at the end of the webbing of his glove, sprung to his feet and nipped Pontiff at first. It's probably the best defensive play I've witnessed in the 35 games or so I've seen in person this year.

So Vanderbilt now leads LSU 3-2 as the Commodores will send No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters Feinberg, Dominic de la Osa and Pedro Alvarez to the plate in the bottom of the eighth.
