SEC: Fantastic

By Doug Kroll - May 24, 2007

South Carolina has recorded 15 outs in this game, and they have struck out 14 times in the process. Arkansas pitcher Jess Todd has given up only one hit, walked one, and got a measly groundball. So He's faced 17 batters and struck out 14 of them. Absolutely filthy. The SEC Tournament record is 15 in a game by Florida's Rob Bonanno against Georiga in the 1994 Tournament. It's the most since 2005 when Todd Doolittle of Mississippi State struck out 13 against South Carolina.

Just to throw out some names here of who else has recorded 14 before at this Tournament: Jeff Calhoun of Ole Miss against Florida in 1980, Eric DuBose of Mississippi State against Auburn in 1995, Derek Lilliquist of Georgia against Mississippi State in 1987, and Matt Treehouse of South Carolina against Vandy in 1992.

Going a little deeper into the record books, the Arkansas record for the number of strikeouts in a game by an individual is 16, when Warren Hemm did so on March 26, 1976 against SMU, and when David Walling did so against Eastern Illinois on February 20, 1998.

So, in conclusion, Todd is in rare company not only here at the tournament, but in Razorbacks' history.

Arkansas still leads things 5-0 as we play in the bottom of the 5th.
