SEC: Final Look From Game One

By Doug Kroll - May 24, 2007

Florida makes a run in the first, a run in the second, and a run in the third hold up against Alabama, to live another day, as they win things 3-2 in a game that take a very manageable 2:46.

The winning pitcher was Bryan Augenstein who goes nine innings scattering eight hits and two runs (both earned) without walking a batter and striking out eight. He threw 127 pitches and it was his second complete game of the season.

The loser was Will Stroup who went 5 1-3 giving up six hits and three runs (all earned) while walking three and striking out one. Stroup suffers his first loss of the season (3-1).

'Bama's Kent Matthes ended up with three hits and Alex Avila hit a solo homer in the ninth to make things a little bit interesting. It was Avila's second hit of the day. Those were the two Crimson Tide players with multiple hit mornings.

As for Florida, Cole Figueroa had two hits and a walk, while six other players ended up with one hit.

It'll be interesting to see how the crowds are the rest of the tournament. For some reason the average in past years seems much higher than would I've seen here so far. I hope they pack them in this weekend, regardless of who's playing.
