SEC: Flood Gates Are Open

By Doug Kroll - May 25, 2007

Well someone had to deal with Vandy's blows and it was Jeff Lockwood. Coming into the top of the ninth, he had a 3.18 ERA this year in 22 appearances. He left with what I calculate 4.93. In one inning, Lockwood was rocked for seven runs on six hits, and he gave up a seventh in the inning before that in which he recorded an out. So not a good night for Lockwood and the Vols, as they go down to Vandy, 15-2.

It's the first ugly game that we've seen here in this Tournament, so that's pretty good. Minor pitched outstanding, picking up his ninth win of the season to improve to 9-1 on the year.

Minor went 7 2-3 giving up just two runs on eight hits, while striking out eight and walking two.

For Nick Hernandez, he evens his record with the loss, and is now 4-4. The freshman lasted just 1 1-3 innings giving up 3 hits and five runs (4 earned) while walking one and striking out none.

Aaron Everett game in to clean up and went 6 1-3 giving up six hits and three runs while striking out six.

Vandy showed their g uns tonight, and showed that they still want this championship despite their opening day loss to these same Vols. Vandy will now play Ole Miss tomorrow afternoon, after Arkansas and South Carolina square off.

So, we're down to four teams left, with Arkansas and Ole Miss in prime position to advance to Sunday's final.

By the way, Dominic de la Osa has an absolute gun in right field, it's fantastic.

Until tomorrow morning, good night everybody from Hoover.
