SEC: Foul Ball Promotion
By Doug Kroll - May 23, 2007
I've seen a lot of baseball in my day, but for the first time, I've seen a foul ball promotion. In most college parks, ushers come around and take the foul balls that are caught back, to be used again (mostly in batting practice). But not only can you keep your foul ball here at Regions Park, Golden Flake chips will give you a free bag of chips if you present the ball to the promotions desk. This leads to some nice scuffles between kids running throughout the seats to retrieve the balls. It's quite the scene.
Mullaney got out of the first unscathed, inducing an inning ending 4-6-3 double play out of South Carolina DH Phil Disher with runners on first and second and one out.
Florida is playing its first SEC Tournament game since 2005when Ole Miss beat them 4-2 for the right to advance to the championship game. They lost the game before to the Rebels 14-1, too. The Gators went 2-2 that year in Hoover, beating Arkansas 9-8, then beating Ole Miss 10-7 before dropping back to back games to the Rebels.
These two teams have met twice at the SEC Tourney, and have split them, one apiece. Looking at this year's regular season contests, the Gamecocks took two-out-of-three in Gainesville, including the rubber match, an 11 inning thriller.
