SEC: Larry Larry Larry
By Doug Kroll - May 24, 2007
Mississippi State Athletic Director Larry Templeton was on in between games here on CSS, and had a couple of interesting tidbids about the upcoming NCAA tournament selection process. In case you don't know, Templeton leads the committee in their selection process, so he'll head up to Indianapolis this week to start that whole process. But of course, the process has already started with schools sending in their bids to host that were due on May 18.
Templeton said that a whopping 56 teams put in a bid to host a regional. Pretty astounding, and makes this guy kinda nervous considering that CSTV.com will have coverage at each regional. And we've got about 12 confirmations at this point from places that may not even host! Can't think about that right now, anyway...
All eight SEC teams that are here have put in bids to host he said. Which I find hard to believe, considering Florida is now under .500 on the season at the moment. But who knows. Just shows you that all of these SEC schools have the capibility to do so, and do so well.
Finally, he promised that the regionals will be spread out all over the country. Don't they say that every year? "We'll have some in the West, in the East, and in the midwest, and of course the South." Nothing new to report there, just wanted to drop that line in there.
If his Bulldogs want a shot at hosting, I'd say they need to kick it up a notch here, considering they have to face David Price tomorrow at 2pm if they drop this game. And going two and out in your conference tournament is not what the committee, headed by Larry Templeton or not, is looking for. So, that's that talk for now. We're still in the bottom of the fifth, Bulldogs have a runner on 2nd with 1 out, still down 3-0.
