SEC: Vols And Rebs

By Doug Kroll - May 24, 2007

Everyone wants to keep talking about how Tennessee probably punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament last night with the win against top seed Vanderbilt, but why not keep winning and stay in the winner's bracket to make sure? That has to be what Rod Delmonico is telling his guys as they head out to short leftfield for a pregame speech.

Tennessee shocked Hoover last night with a dominating win over Vanderbilt (although it did get hairy near the end, but either way...). Now it becomes a question of how much of that was James Adkins (who threw a one hitter through eight), and how much of it can carry over to today against the Ole Miss ace, Lance Lynn.

Here's the pitching matchup:

For visiting Tennessee who will wear black tops with white pants:
Righty Craig Cobb comes inw ith a 5.67 ERA and an 8-5 record in 16 starts. He has two complete games, and has only struck out 56 in 101 2-3 innings. Opponents are hitting a hefty .335 against him, so eight wins aint shabby with those numbers.

For Ole Miss, who will be the home team (something they probably didnt think they would be tonight, being the No. 5 seed), they will throw their ace, Lance Lynn.

The big sophomore righty is 6-4 in 15 starts with a 2.69 ERA. He's got 120 K's in 100 1-3 innings. He's only allowed batters to hit at a .214 clip as well.

So it should be a good one. The Vols have played much better baseball the last couple of weeks, and we'll see if they can keep up the momentum from last night against Vandy.
