SEC: What A Tenth, VANDY WINS

By Doug Kroll - May 26, 2007

This was truly unreal. Unreal. Down 6-3, Dominic de la Osa led off the 10th with a solo homer to make it 6-4. Back-to-back singles by Pedro Alvarez and Ryan Flaherty put runners on 1st and 2nd. Matt Meingasner laid down a SAC bunt, but third baseman Cody Overbeck threw it away down the right field line to cut the lead to 6-5. Runners were now on 2nd and third for Shea Robin who lined a base hit into rightfield that scored both runners and Vandy won 7-6 without ever recording an out in the inning.

Everyone's still shocked. Ole Miss is completely stunned, and this place is eerily quiet.

It's only fitting that Robin got the game winning hit, after he was the goat in the 10th who threw the ball into leftfield that gave Ole Miss the temporary lead. Folks, they are No. 1 for a reason.

Vanderbilt will now face Arkansas tomorrow afternoon at 3pm central to determine who wins the SEC Championship. We'll know the host sites before the first pitch, as they are scheduled to be announced right around 2:15 central time.

I'll chime in with reaction about that, plus we'll have Mark Etheridge's latest bracket after the announcement, and of course, the latest from Hoover, where Ole Miss fans are still just sitting in their seats stunned, while Vandy fans chant,"We're No. 1! We're No. 1!" They certainly are.

Your winner is Casey Weathers who is now 11-2 after going 3.2 innings giving up four hits, and three runs (all earned), while striking out eight. Your loser is Cody Satterwhite who falls to 4-4 after going two innings giving up six hits, 5 runs (4 earned) while walking one and striking out one.

The final line:

Ole Miss.......2...1...0...0...0...0...0...0...0...3- 6 10 2
Vandy...........2...0...0...0...0...0...0...0...1...4- 7 13 1

That'll do it from Hoover this evening, where for one final time, Vanderbilt defeats Ole Miss 7-6. Good night everybody.
