UA-LSU: Sunday Showdown

By Jean Neuberger - May 06, 2007

We're a half hour from the game, as #7 Arkansas and LSU are both on the field, warming up for the deciding game of a three-game series that carries a lot of weight in the SEC stadings.

Here's what we have for you today....

Arkansas couldn't have asked for a better outcome, not only with their win, but with the Tennessee comeback and Georgia's surprising rout of Vanderbilt down in Athens. The Hogs are back in the one slot in the SEC, and this afternoon, they are determined to keep it that way.

Meanwhile, LSU took a BIG hit. How big?

Here's how the SEC Tournament seedings would go as of today....

1) Arkansas (16-7, 2-1 series win over Vandy)
2) Vanderbilt (16-7)
3) Miss. State (12-9)
4) Ole Miss (12-11, 2-1 vs. S. Carolina, 0-0 vs. Florida)
5) S. Carolina (12-11, 1-2 vs. Ole Miss, 2-1 vs. Florida)
6) Florida (12-11, 0-0 vs. Ole Miss, 1-2 vs. S. Carolina)
7) Tennessee (10-11)
8) Kentucky (10-12-1, 2-0-1 vs. LSU)
-------------------------------------------------------
9) LSU (10-12-1, 0-2-1 vs. Kentucky)
10) Alabama (10-13)
11) Georgia (8-15)
12) Auburn (7-16)

So, with yesterday's results, LSU went from the #7 seed to out of the tournament.

Basically, it'll be a HUGE game for both teams this afternoon.

Today's Starters

Arkansas will send Duke Welker (5-2, 3.33 ERA) to the mound to win the series. Welker throws a lot of walks (31 in 67.2 innings pitched), but opposing batters are only hitting .201 against him. Meanwhile, LSU counters with their ace, Jared Bradford (9-2, 3.62 ERA). Bradford is so critical to the Tigers that he is used as a reliever whenever the game is close (such as Friday night's affair).

We're almost set to go here in Fayetteville....it's Arkansas, it's LSU, it just doesn't get any better!
