UA-OM: Getting Set For Game Two
By Jean Neuberger - May 18, 2007
The Hog Pen out in left field is already filling up an hour before game time, as Arkansas and Ole Miss get set for the second game of a critical three-game series that will decide who wins the SEC West. Arkansas can win the division outright tonight, while Ole Miss needs to win out and hope for Miss. State to lose for their shot at the West crown.
It's fireworks night tonight at the Baum, but the first set of fireworks came last night after the game, as Dave Van Horn clearly was unhappy with his team's play. Van Horn told reporters that some of his players "needed to quit being umpires and start swinging the bat." Of course, that referred to the Hogs 0-5 performance at the plate with a runner at third base.
Ole Miss looks loose and pumped right now. They have full confidence against Arkansas, and why shouldn't they? The Rebels have beaten Arkansas 11 of the last 14 times. They feel like they own the Hogs right now. Meanwhile, Arkansas looks to be pretty focused. Whether their focus turns into a great performance or a tight team making too many mistakes is left to be seen though. Currently, Van Horn has taken his entire team into the dugout, and no doubt he's giving his team one heck of a pre-game speech.
A good crowd is expected tonight. 8,033 showed up last night, which for Arkansas is a pretty small crowd. No doubt at least 9,000 will show up, and UA should be flirting with 10,000+ tonight.
Let's take a look at the starting pitchers tonight...
Arkansas goes with their hottest pitcher to date, RHP Jess Todd. Todd is 7-2 with a 2.95 ERA, but in his last four starts, he's gone 4-0 with a 1.10 ERA (knock on wood). Todd's a fastball pitcher with a wicked 87 mph slider as well, so if he's on, that's great news for the Razorbacks. Ole Miss will counter with RHP Lance Lynn. Lynn is 6-4 with a 2.80 ERA on the season. Lynn's also a great fastball pitcher, and the Hogs have really focused on that in batting practice today.
A player in a key role today might be Arkansas RF Brad Secrist. Secrist hasn't started since missing a pop fly against Vanderbilt that turned into an inside-the-park home run. How he plays tonight might be a morale shift for the Razorbacks. They desperately need someone else besides Logan Forsythe to step up on the offensive end tonight.
On a lighter note, the guys from CSTV.com's Going Yard raved about Baum Stadium last night, ranking it at the top of the nation's on-campus facilities, and even going as far as saying it was better than some minor league ballparks out there. Of course, having the RBI Girls around sure helps things out! For those who haven't seen it, here's the link to their night at Baum

We're about an hour away from the first pitch here in Fayetteville, as we get set for another great game in this SEC West showdown.
