UA-OM: Horrific Ump Calls
By Jean Neuberger - May 19, 2007
Justin Henry led off the top of the fourth with a ground ball that bounced foul past the first base line. We're not talking barely foul, either; it was a good 8 inches to the right of the foul line. However, umpire AJ Lostaglio called it fair, to the dismay of Arkansas 1B Danny Hamblin (who let it go, knowing it was foul), the crowd, and Dave Van Horn, who ran of the third base dugout to argue the call.
You might remember from last night that Lostaglio got in the basepath when Matt Willard was tagging from third base, bumping into him and almost causing Willard to be out at home. Had Ole Miss catcher Brett Basham not bobbled the ball, we could be talking about a whole different scenario here in the SEC.
Right now, the Arkansas AND Ole Miss media are mumbling their disgust at the umpiring for this series. Both sides feel it's been really bad this weekend.
