WSU vs OSU: Cowboys play small ball

By Tristan Threlkeld - May 15, 2007

The OSU Cowboys played a little small ball to add to their lead. Matt Mangini led the Cowboys off with a walk, Jordy Mercer was up next and singled an 0-2 pitch down the third baseline, which moved Mangini to second. Mangini moved to third base on a wild pitch by Shockers relief pitcher Noah Krol. Steve Ptak came in to pinch hit for the Cowboys, but struck out to the Shockers their first out of the inning. With runners on the corners the Cowboys catcher Ryan Flavell put a sac-bunt down, but Shockers relief pitcher Noah Krol layed out to get the bunt and could not put a handle on the ball. The play scored Mangini from third and gave Flavell an RBI single. The Cowboys could do no more damage and left runners on the bags again. Cowboys now lead 3-1.

The Shockers got a runner on first with Damon Sublett grabbing a walk from Tyler Blandford. He was then replaced by Mr. Utility Jordy Mercer. He only needed five (5) pitches to get the three needed outs to end the inning.

Cowboys head to the ninth inning with a 3-1 lead.
