WSU vs OSU: Cowboys make the comeback

By Tristan Threlkeld - May 15, 2007

Tyler Mach came up to the plate with runners on first and second and 2 outs. Mach went deep into the count and with a 2-2 count Mach countered on freshly inserted relief pitcher for the Schockers, Noah Booth. Mach sent the 2-2 pitch to deep centerfield for a 2 RBI double to give the Cowboys the 2-1 lead. The hit scored Ty Wright and Dusty Harvard. After Mach was settled in at second, WSU pitching coach Brent Kemnitz came to the mound to talk and not to anybody on his team. He talked directly to the homeplate umpire and was promptly ejected for some hasty remarks and body language. After the action settled down, the Cowboys could do no more damage.

The Shockers came into the bottom half of the seventh inning looking for some retaliation, but all they got was the big goose egg. The Shockers put a runner on first with a walk by Cowboy relief pitcher Tyler Blandford. He got out of the shortlived jam by getting Shockers Andy Dirks to ground into a 3-6-3 double play. That play was supposed to be what happened a few innings ago for Rebel Ridling and Jordy Mercer, but that was then and this is now and now is the time for the Cowboys to protect their lead.

At the end of the seventh Cowboys lead 2-1.
